Do I need to bring all my books to school on the first day?
No.
Only bring a few books, whatever fits in your school bag. Teachers do not expect you to have everything during the first week.
Should I set up my online textbooks before school starts?
No.
You will be shown how to set up your online textbooks when you get your laptop. You should use your school email address which you will also be given upon receiving your laptop.
Do I need my pencil case on the first day of school?
Yes.
You will need to write things down so bring your pencil case with you.
What subjects will I have on the first day of school?
You won't have any proper classes on the first day of school. You will receive your timetable which will tell you the subjects you will have on the second, third, fourth, ... days of school. Just come to school ready to make new friends, meet your new teachers and learn your way around.
Will I get homework on the first day?
No!
There will not be proper classes on the first day of school so you won't get any homework. You will not get home study tasks until you have been at school for a couple of weeks. We give you some time to settle in before giving you home study.
I don't know anyone else in Year 7. Will this be a problem?
No.
Come to school ready to make friends. The teachers know which students are the only ones coming from their school and will introduce you to some students in your homeroom. You will be assigned a seat next to another student, introduce yourself and ask their name. Prepare some questions about football or soccer: What football team do you support? Do you follow soccer? Do you enjoy playing computer games?
When will I get my laptop?
You will get your laptop on the first day of school and be shown how to use it. Make sure you are listening carefully and take notes if necessary!
Will I get an email address?
You will get an email address when you receive your laptop. Make sure you check it in the morning, at home before you go to bed and regularly during the day.
Will I get lost?
No.
All the Year 7 classrooms are very close to each other in the same area of the school, even music, art, food tech and drama. You will move around the school with the other students in your homeroom. If you are not sure where to go, follow a friend!
Can I buy food at the canteen?
Yes.
As long as you have enough money you can buy whatever you like from the canteen. We suggest you try everything to decide on your favourites!
Does the whole year level go on camp together?
No.
You will go on camp with your homeroom only. Camp is early in Term 1 and is a great chance to get to know everyone and to make new friends. Your homeroom teacher will be there with you as well.
What if I can't open my combination lock or I forget my combination?
The teachers will help you learn to open your combination lock and will let you practice until you are confident. If you forget your combination, the Year Level Coordinators have a master key and a list of everyone's combination, they can help you get your lock open.
What do I do if someone bullies me or pushes me?
This type of behaviour is very rare at St Bernard's. We do not accept this type of behaviour and the teachers act on it very quickly when they are told. If you are bullied or pushed, tell a teacher immediately. We want you to be happy and feel safe at school, once we know of the problem we will work with you to fix it.
