Exams
Exams for Maths and English will be conducted in Term 4. Exams are one of the students' form of assessment for each subject and are set out in a test format. The idea of an exam is to prepare students for their VCE exams in later years. In year 7 the exams are conducted in the classroom with the subject teacher and is focused on giving students an experience of preparing for and sitting an exam.
Students will receive a study sheet prior to the exam outlining what will be covered. Students should be talking to their teachers well before the exam date to ensure they know the content to prepare and methods students can use to prepare.
Exam timetables will also be available on the assessment calendar.
Please note that exams can not be rescheduled for absent students, unless a medical certificate is provided.
Information on study techniques can be found on the "study techniques" page.
ASSESSMENT MARKS
For all assessments students will receive a mark from A+ to UG:
•A grade of C is considered to be 'at standard'. Students who receive a C grade have demonstrated all the appropriate skills tested in an assessment task and are progressing well. This is the level of understanding and application expected from all students at St Bernard's College. Students who do not reach this benchmark are expected to attend Redeemer sessions which are an opportunity for students to reattempt assessment tasks and bring them up to standard.
•Different subjects mark to different standards in the VELS Curriculum, consequently and A+ in one subject may indicate a student is 12 months ahead of the cohort, while in other subjects it may indicate superior mastery of content at the expected levels. Subject teachers are happy to answer parent questions on this matter. If you have questions, please get in touch with the subject teacher.
NA grades indicate an assessment task was not attempted. This is often due to legitimate absence.
UG grades indicate a student has not produced work of a Year 7 standard.
